Question Power locks and 12V socket not working...

Heres the scoop. I plaY my Ipod off of an FM transmitter which plugs into the 12V socket. IT was getting staticy recently so i unplugged it. I noticed a piece of a leaf or something wedged in there, and i couldnt get at it with my fingers. So, not really thinking, i grabbed small piece of wire (not connected to anything) levftover from when i put my deck in and tried to fish it out. It sparked, so i stopped. After that, no power gets to the 12v, and neither for the door locks. The fuses are all fine, so i must have shorted a wire. I tried to get the center console out, but the shifter is in the way and i cant get it off... I have a 93 Grand AM GT, and this is not the only wiring problem I have. My Daytimes , headlights, and fog lights are never on in the same order. I actually have to flip the headlikghts all the way on to get the fog lights to come on, and the daytimes come on randomly.

Re: Power locks and 12V socket not working...

If it sparked then it blew the fuse.
If the short happend for an extended time it could hav melted wiress.

Front of the shifter should have a slot,
a horseshoe clip slides in holding it on.

Not sure whats up with the DRLs and headlight.
Could be several things, the MFS, a relay , a fuse(s).
Electrical gremils are tricky sometimes.

Not so sure on your other issues but does the older model GA's have the power door lock relays? I know mine weren't working forever and I finnaly switched the one relay and, vola, I have locking potential again. Just thought it might help...

Should just be a blown fuse, you would have melted the wire you stuck in there before you melted any of the cars wiring. As far as the fog lights they should come on when you have your parking lights or headlights on. I'm not sure if they come on when the DRL is on during the day, I don't think they do. If you have automatic headlights they would come on when the headlights come on at night. I'm glad I don't have DRL's

Ya the fuses are fine. So I must have shorted a wire.

Re: Power locks and 12V socket not working...

I dont think 93 GA's have DRLs.

If the fogs arent working check for power at the squtch and at wire harness plug where the bulb is. Could be shorted there too.

But from your first post stated, it could be your multi function switch(MFS) malfunctioning .

Wiring gremlins, how fun they are .....
