Question timing questions

hey anyone who can help me out please do i just bought a 95 hatch with a gsr in it when i got the car it was quick but it ran like shit come to find out the timing was way retarded and there where vacume leaks so i fixed the leaks and advanced the timing but my question is how can i make sure the car is timed right it is a j-spec engine so there is no timing plug also it has cam gears now and i have them set on +4 and it runs good and dosnt ping or knock. on the first start of the daythe car doesnt want to idle on its own so i have to rev it at about 2 grand for 30-45 seconds then it runs alitle better. whats wrong with my hatch any input will be helpful thanks

wtf is a timing plug ?
i never tried this on a honda but use a timing light on the crank. if you cant then set the crank to tdc, theres a mark on the block. then the cam gears should line up with the mark on the block for the cam gears, if the cam gears dont line up with the mark on the block then the timing is off.

a timeing plug is a plug you can hook up a timeing light. and a nice way to time it well i should say a lucky way is to loosen the belt take it off the cam gear and line up the cam gears with the markings on the engine or the plastic case you will see them. then put your # 1 and 4 pistons at top dead center then put on your belt tension it, and do ATLEAST TWO FULL ROTATIONS OF THE CRANK before you start the car.
