Re: Upgrades

Welcome to AF.

It would help to know what engine and trans you have.

But the cheapest things would be a Cold air intake and your exhaust.

Re: Upgrades

Thiers not much out there for the older Grand am's with the 3.1 or 3.3L .

So the CAI or exhaust is about the only two upgrades available. And anything you might find for performance will be expensive.

Re: Upgrades

Anything would have to be custom made as thiers not any thing out there for the 3.3. Grand Prixs back then had a 3.1 w/ turbo but it would need modified with custom headers, all the turbo tubing, intercooler. Then finding someone to tune it so it will run other wise it is not going to work like a plug and play thing.

Very expensive too if you cant do the work your self. I have a 3.3 from 95 thats turbo, I had it in a 93 GA. It had been bored out and running around 12-14psi.
This was a kinda class project from me and some Linconl tech students back in 95'. I ended up totalling the car but the engine was saved, and not for sale

In the long run it would probly be cheaper to just go buy a turbo car or a Super charged GTP

Good Hunting!

Since you do have a 3.3L, you can check the early 3.8L supercharged motors, since they are the same family. Just different displacement and a supercharger on top. A motor swap would be possible and definitely give you some pep that you're craving.

Find a 3.8L supercharged motor and give it an overhaul, along with some top end work. Do some generous porting of the exhaust manifolds, have an exhaust shop make you a custom downpipe and 2.5inch exhaust to free up the exhaust end of things.

There's hope for your car.. The other option would be to find a donor 2.3L High Output motor with a 5spd and transfer everything over to your car.

Re: Upgrades

Say I have a 1989 Bonneville with a 3800 and 4spd trans how hard would it be to swap into my 1993 grandam GT 4dfoor 3speed with a 3300? and how much of an engine benefit would i have Also i was told the sensors/plugins from the 3800 will all be the same as the 3300 is this true?

A little off topic here

Well do you hav a Bonnie ???
It would be an easy swap if you know how.

The motor and trans mounts might need relocated.
Not all the sensors will be the same or some might have to be retrofitt to work.

Then you have tunning issues that would need adressed when the swaps done.

have fun and Good Luck!

the 3300 and the 3800 is in the same family of motors, so technically it should be easier than the average swap. It would be even better if you had about the same model year plus or minus a year or two which would make wiring even less of a hassle. The motors should for the most part have the same block provisions for mounting points so that would make things a little easier. I remember there was a guy w/ a similar year grand am as yours that did a 3800 supercharged swap into his car, and everything was fairly straight forward. He used to run a grand am website back in the day.

The most hassle would be making sure all the wiring checks out and can be interfaced with your gauge cluster wiring etc.
