Angry 94 rodeo wont start

i have a 1994 Rodeo V6 4X4.....it was running fine then one day we came out to start it and it didn't start and won't start. We've
1. changed the fuel fliter 2. checked the fuses 3. changed ignition coils 4. Changed the intake manifold gaskets 5. checked the spark plugs, plugwires 6. replaced fuel filter think it might be the fuel pump but its getting fuel and the pump turns on (+) it only has tabout 45,000 miles on it.... We're out of ideas to check, and we're not planning on putting a lot of money into considering we're just going to sell it, but does anyone know what else it could be?? if so, PLEASE help, We're really stressed!!!

Re: 94 rodeo wont start

What happens when you turn the key? You probably have the original timing belt? It's low mileage, but it's old.

Re: 94 rodeo wont start

Good gosh, ONLY 45k miles! WOW!

Can I ask why you're selling it? You have a LOT of life left in that engine.

What are you asking for it - you're not too far from me.

thanks for all start your replies. first off we did check all of the grounds. all ok yes it it the original timing belt, but would cause it to just not start all of a sudden? it was running perfect then the next day it didnt start. it turns over and acts like it wants to start every onces in a while. im selling it to get a smaller car (honda) i would like to get at least 4,000 out of it. its in perfect shape. ive installed the brush gaurd tow packagebug gaurd ect. anything would help to get it fixed and running thanks in advance!

Re: 94 rodeo wont start

A bad ignition module or MAP sensor would make it not start. Also, if the timing belt happened to break at that time, it would, of course, not start. Take one of the upper parts of the timing cover off. It's easy, check the belt. Check for spark, find the schrader valve behind the upper intake, close to the firewall, looks like a tire valve stem and push it like your letting air out of a tire, after you have tried to crank it for a few seconds. If fuel doesn't spray out, you have no fuel pressure. Sometimes fuel pumps can be bad even though you can still hear it.

ok, today i desided to go out and try to see if it would start. it did! runs perfect again!..........................but now i have another problem! it is puffing out black smoke it has never done this before. what could cause it to do this? ive read black smoke could be too much fuel, is this correct? if so how do i fix this problem? thanks in advance

Re: 94 rodeo wont start

Have you let it run for awhile? Also, I'm wondering about a harness problem...

Re: 94 rodeo wont start

yes i drove it for like 10-20 mins . it ran perfect except for the black smoke coming out the exhaust. i pulled the pcv valve out while it was running and the smoke went away. is it just because its letting oil throught the valve and into the intake??

Nope.

The reason it quit smoking when you pulled out the pcv valve is because it then lets a large amount of fresh unmetered air into the intake, so it was no longer running rich.
