01 Alero Instrument Problems

My 01 Alero starts and runs fine, but the other day the gauges wouldn't work going down the road. When the car is started all the lights in the dash light up, but then go out. The radio will work sometimes, but will not go out even when the door is opened after turning the car off. When the radio doesn't come on the theft lock light flashes. The lights behind the dash still work as does the odometer. I'd appreciate any help/advice anyone can give me.
