rev limit ?

On a turbo 280zx how does the rev limiter work? Is it by fuel cut or the ignition, or both?
Wondering because I have a high rev cam and am limited to stock rev limiter...
( and yes I hit it frequently in 1st and ocaisanaly in 2nd) I figure if its ignition cut an aftermarket box would cure that problem. But if it is fuel...... hmmm
box and figure out a way to make the dizzy be fired by the cranck instead of the cam......
