Front hub troubles?

Could someone give me some insight on how to adjust the front wheel bearing play on a 96 F-150 4X4. I figured out how to get the hub apart but I am clueless as to what torque should be on the bearings and I think that I need a special tool to adjust the nut. The Chiltons manual is worthless. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Front hub troubles?

For auto-locking hubs, with the proper socket, tighten bearing retaining nut to 50 ft.lbs. while rotating wheel to seat bearing. Back nut off 90 degrees then retighten to 16 in.lbs. tighten to next slot if retainer key doesn't fit. reinstall remaining parts as removed. Manual hubs-same procedure to adjust and seat bearing, then tightening the nut so pin goes into nearest hole. Install and torque outer nut to 160 to 205 ft. lbs. The three washers - metal, plastic, and splined,go in that order.
