1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
Doing this for a friend. They were driving down the highway and the car stopped when they were getting ready to pull off the exit on the highway. Tried to restart the car, just turns over but will not start. I was thinking it was not getting any fuel. Is there any other common problems with this type of car? Please let me know, I will try and get the codes from the check engine light tomorrow.
Ok soooo i got the codes off the car, it is giving code 12 -- Direct Battery input to PCM was disconnected 14 -- Map sensor voltage low 54 -- No Cam signal at pcm Which does anyone think it is possibly? and how hard are they to change?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks@! email at : [email protected] cell is : 717-275-5589 Last edited by kaotiklivin4eva; 04-25-2007 at 04:20 PM. |

Re: 1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
The #12 code is nothing from what I can tell. Mine shows that code every
10th to 15th start. Whenever I get code 12 I get a 32 code as well. The car doesn't run any different when they come on so I don't look into it any further. Mine is a 1995 2.0sohc with 165000kms. Maybe search this site for similar problems and also search here... forums.neons.org |

Re: 1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
#54 is the camshaft position sensor and if that is bad she will not run. Another thought is the crankshaft position sensor if that is bad she may start when cold but will only run a few minutes and die, she will need to be coded when she quits running.

Re: 1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
check the camshaft position sensor pigtails..mine had a broke clip just couldnt make a good contact..camshaft position sensor is 80.00 also is a dealer Item so is the 30.00 item for new pigtals but with high mileage might wont to change it anyway.95's are thicky..Mines the same year.
if that sensor is bad the guy above me is right that car wil not run so thats got to be fixxed .As far as the codes on you PCM. code 12 is a standed code..show that computer reads that you are trying to read codes and it runs its program thats code 12 it comes up on every neon..as for code 14 that is something to look into and cam sen also...after you get all that fix the codes will still read code 12 and code 55 which is all codes clear..no errors.means you are good with pcm. if car dosnt crank after that you have a lot of hunting..take it from me.i am getting to me a ex on neons..lol..hope this helps |

Re: 1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
Do not know if this helps, but it is right next to the coolant temperature sensor and it is a square metal box with electrical lead and mounted on a metal plate held by four bolts.

Re: 1995 Plymouth Neon Turns Over, But Won't Start
I got my new camshaft position sensor at the local O'Reillys here in S. Texas. It cost about $26. They had to get it from their warehouse, which took half a day. It also came with a new connector, which I soldered to the original wires, having slide heat shrink tubing over the wires first. Since I had to remove the wiring harness cover to do this, I recovered the wiring harness with the snaky flexible plastic harness covers they have in the auto parts places. I used lots of electrical tape and nylon cable ties to support that wiring harness - away from moving items, the exhaust manifold, and anything with a sharp edge.
I also replaced the vehicle speed sensor, which cost about $35 and also came with the matching connector. It took the parts place 3 tries to get the right one (that matched my old one.) |
