Suspension Advice

Here's what I got.

1990 CRX SI (stock)
Hurst shifter
Neuspeed sways

Pretty basic. Rescued the car from what I believe to be a ricer (attitude and mentaly) no offense meant to anyone who's definition is differant.

Anyway. After fixing the ricer crap with the right parts and workmanship I am looking to do the rest of the suspension and need any advice. Thinking about Tokico Illumina Kit or maybe the Illuminas with the Eibach Springs (heard is a good combo). What do u think? Also since the car is so old should I look at replacing the bushings, anything I should be looking at besides shocks and springs and what would u consider to be a good braking system?

this is my first SI and consider who had it before I have grown quit attached after correcting some, just mind blowing @#$$ that was done to this poor car.

Re: Suspension Advice

Take a look at this link for suspension help:
http://crxcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?t=4900

Where are you gonna drive the car? Is it gonna be a track car? Right now my car is mainly my daily and I personally think my neuspeed race springs have too high spring rates (H&R/Neuspeed Race: 575/450). The higher the spring rates, the harsher the ride. Figure out what you want out of the car, if its your daily and you live in an area with rough roads and potholes you may want springs with lower rates.

I've heard some people say they've blown illuminas even with a mild spring setup like with eibach sportlines. If you want the hands down best shock go with Koni Yellows.

Re: Suspension Advice

too bad its not a 91, that has 4 wheel disc brakes. upgrade your rear brakes to disc, that would be a good setup for brakes.

for the suspension.... im a cheap ass and roll on ebay coilovers with stock struts in the back and 89 accord struts in the front, and it rides great for a daily driver. the roads here are pretty decent tho. ive had the setup for over a year and havnt blown any struts. i also have the ebay camber kit (been in for about 3 months) and it has held up great.

for a daily driver setup you want to spend real money on, i would say get something like Tein sport springs and tokico blues. wont cost too much, but should give much better ride then what i have!
theres so many combo's its impossible to list em all... all i can do is tell you what i have, and what ive seen!

i wouldnt worry about replacing bushings unless they are totally shot or you have rattling coming from your wheel wells

good luck!
Dan

Re: Suspension Advice

I'm a ricer at heart.

But as far as suspension... in my last car I had TokicoHP shocks (the blue ones) and Progress springs...... provided a very good ride in my opinion... held the corners great.... is what I had planned on going with on my CRX... but I'm starting to consder some OMNIpower full coilovers... road in a friends EG that had them, and was very impressed.

Actually the 90 crx si is 100% identical to the 91 crx si and also has rear disk brakes (the only 4th gen models that had them).

I can understand you are a cheap ass, so am I, but honestly OEM suspension is like 100,000x better than any ebay coilovers. I wouldn't put them on my car if i was payed to.

Tokico blues don't qualify as 'quality' shocks. They are more near an OEM replacement, like Gr2's. They will blow if your lower than 1.5" even with moderate spring rates.

Now the KYB's I agree are a terrible shock... I know 4 people who've blown theirs with very little milage on them

Ran my Tokico blues for 3 years with a 2" drop with no complaints what so ever.... and I drive like a bat out of hell, through a mine field of pot holes on my way to work every day... no problems, good ride.

Im not saying that they're bad im just saying there not the best quality shock to use on a drop. They are not on par with koni yellow, agx's, and illuminas.

Been thinking about trying Koni's... but I've had two friends blow illuminas too, so they are out, in my opinion.

http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/ $157 a pair for Koni yellows w/free shipping. I buy stuff from them all the time, they're prices kick ass on most things they carry, and everything is shipped the same or next day.

Word. I saw them for like 500 for all 4 but 157 for a pair is pretty damn good.

Edit: There listed as $127 EACH. Did i miss something here, there still goddamn pricey.

I could have sworn it was $150 or so for the pair... I was just pricing them last week trying to talk myself into buying a set.

Guess I'll go with the Omni Sport coilovers after all.
