New to the forums... pics of my s2000

Here's my Spa Yellow s2k... I know i'm not as good as some of you guys on here, but its my first model... this stuff is getting addicted. I did this yellow s2k, and last night did a black S2k, and now i'm onto a Steel Grey Audi TT, then a yellow ITR...

The second i got it, i had to slam it of course...

Then, i wanted more of a JDM Look, so i threw on some Spoon wheels...

Bone Stock f20c power wasn't good enough...

So since i wanted more power, turbo was the way to go...

But the turbo i put on was takin too long to spool up, so i threw a bottle in the trunk to help assist in the spoolup..

Now the car was really haulin ass and spinnin through the RPM's really fast, so i had to put in a tach and shiftlight so i could easily figure out where to shift...

And now to keep me planted into the seats when i'm out blowin off porsche's on the road course, i purchased some racing seats... Just waiting on the other harness so i can install these bad boys..

And 2 more things... I'm thinkin about painting my mufflers black and leaving the tips chrome... what do you guys think? And who makes a good camber kit for the s2000? I'm having some mAd phAT camber problems as you can see..

What should i do to the car next? Any other ideas? I'd really like to do a CF hood... what is the best way to do it?

Thanks... the kit is a Die Cast made by Maisto. Yeah, its my first kit... I just finished my second, a Die Cast 1/24 scale made by Testors, its a black S2000... Now, i have moved onto a Tamiya Toyota SARD Supra GT... It will be black with Red fender flares, black roll cage, and some other stuff...

I know my s2000 isn't as good as some models, i'm just proud of my modifications i did... The tach, nitrous bottle, intercooler, and racing seats are out of my Super Street HotWheels Si..

You can roll your eyes all you like, but i just put it in the regular CAR MODELING forum, not the PLASTIC modelling forum. And if you wanna get technical, the car is Die Cast, but all of the modifications i have done are from plastic cars... :finger:

Ah, you see there is NO plastic model forum in AF. But there is a seperate one for DIE CAST, which is METAL and although you have done mods off plastic models your car is still METAL, do you get what I am pointing to yet? You will have more success on input and all in the die cast section because they would do the same as you. That is why there is a seperate forum for it

Ho ho boys, take it easy. Most important thing is that we work on scale models and that we enjoy spending our time in doing so. As far as I can see it, he worked it, not just collected it, regarless if it's plastic or metal. I think the other thread about the Ferrari in 1/6th wasn't about plastic either.

Besides, no one is forced to reply, right?

Happy modeling!

Guido

Amen. This forum works for anyone who builds model cars or modifies them, regardless of the material. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the diecast forum geared more towards the collectors than the builders? I certainly don't have a problem w/ seeing any type of model cars on this forum, as long as they have interest to the builders here. Don't forget that many models are only available as diecast, and if we want them to look good we have to use all of our modeling skills to finish them properly. I've seen enough diecast models that have been reworked that the finished product was indistinguishable from a plastic kit.

Also, what's the point in chastising someone new to building just because they started w/a diecast model? Telling them to go elsewhere is a bit extreme IMHO. I wish it were that good when I started, and had to ruin all of my models with horrible Testors brush paint and tube glue. If the modeling bug takes hold, I'm sure that more detailed plastic kits will interest the beginner and before long the diecast models may take a back seat. In this case the models shown are definitely of interest in both forums.

ScrapinSi, I really like what you've done with your model. I wish my first model had looked 5% as good as that S2K. You may need to do some plastic surgery w/an XActo knife, Xacto saw (blade mounts in the same handle as the #11 knife blade), a drill, styrene rod and tube material and glue to reconfigure the suspension camber, and as for the CF hood, Scale Motorsports makes different scales of CF decals. Check out Scale Auto magazine for details on how to get them, many big hobby shops carry the line as well. Tamiya's website also has a tip on how to create CF using two colors of spray paint (black and charcoal) and screen mesh as a template/stencil.

Yes, many Maisto and Burago models are available unassembled. I see examples of 1/24th and 1/18th in the model kit section at Wal Mart and big hobby shops. Testors repackages a lot of models from a variety of manufacturers. The Maisto models also come w/a second set of custom rims, though sometimes they're just plated versions of the stock rims.

Like it or not, diecast models and diecast kits are now a far bigger portion of the model market than plastic kits. For beginners they really make sense. If they like building models, beginners will naturally be interested in trying to further their skills by building/painting/modifying plastic kits. It's for this reason that I think diecast models are a good thing for both builders and the hobby in general. They are one of the best ways of keeping the hobby alive and new builders joining the ranks. The basic interest for cars has to be there first regardless. If the first models are successful (and diecast models usually are), then the beginning modeler will have a lot more interest in continuing. If the first models are a pain in the butt, requiring a huge learning curve and cash outlay for materials that won't guarantee good results (craftsmanship is something learned over time, and the materials can be rather messy), then the beginner may simply give up and move onto something else. Which has happened countless times in the past.

Personally I refuse to be a material "bigot" or "snob". If it's a model car, and it can be built to look like a good replica, I simply don't care what the base material is. I definitely prefer working with plastic kits, but I won't throw diecast out the door if it's a subject I like.
