Conversion help please.

So I got a 99 RS and I am in the process of converting it to a all black interior with power windows , locks , mirros , etc..the works. So far I have the black interior , power mirrors installed on manual windowed doors XD ( soon to be all electrical ) a GS computer a 2g , rear wheel disc conversion in process as I type , and now I am stuck with the cruise control system.

As far as I can tell , shouldn't the ECU controll the cruise control ? or is there a special swap I need to do as far as T.B goes or is there some sort of cruise ocntrol module somewhere I need to find and attatch to the RS wire harness or should I get a 2G GS wireharness for inside ? I would really like cruise control in my rs for sh*ts and giggles but if its not possible , oh well

Please let me know.

BTW : 5 speed manual. If it matters.

Re: Conversion help please.

From what I know, there is a different thottle cable, the cruise control box itself, and the wiring to hook it to the ECU. I did find something on VFAQ about relocating the cruise control (would give a list of parts) but the link was dead.

Question though...to my knowledge, the 2g RS/GS ECU was interchangable. Was there a reason you bought a GS ECU to replace yours?

Re: Conversion help please.

I've removed the cruise control from my car. There is a cable going from the pedal to the CC box. There is a second cable then going from there to the TB. There is, IIRC, 1 connector needed, and then a vaccum line is need for the second control moduel on the CC. It's hard to explain.

Question, why are you adding CC? A lot of people take theirs out. Its more problems to go wrong. Also, it may restrict at times. I know with mine, the throttle wasnt opening all the way, no matter what I did or how I adjusted it. There was too much slack in the actual CC pulley. Just keep it out for shits and giggles. Don't forget now, you need the controls and switches inside the car also to get it working, and have everything connected there. Not trying to detour you from doing it, but it seems like more work than anything.

And the GS/RS ECU is the same.

No cop will pull you over for 5 over the limit. If they do you can fight it and win bc no cop will come into court to stick that.

By 5 over I mean 65 on a 55. I don't even consider 55's as 55's lol..

Re: Conversion help please.

I personally like cruise control. I drive on the highway alot (3 hours each way to the lake every weekend) and I get sick of always having to watch my speed. I'm currently in the process of putting CC back in the RS. I had to swap the CC module itself, the engine wiring harness because of the extra sensors and shit, throttle cable, and the switches inside the car. The only reason I'm doing it is because I had a parts car to pull ALL of the parts from for free, but if you aren't that lucky then I would suggest against it.

Re: Conversion help please.

I got a t-boned GS i can get all my jazz off for dirt cheap. I only paid 25 for the ECU , the main reason I got the ecu was because I was unaware of them being the same. I prefer cruise control because I do a lot of highway driving roughly 120 miles a day and it's annoying to constantly push the pedal and let off, push and let off. I have all the switches inside and I even got the red GS hatch with wiper motor . anywho , I just need to know where the CC control module is under the dash or under the hood. Also , I figure if I ever want to sell my baby , it has that much more value to it being a converted RS to a GS..seems the GS sells for way more than a prime RS.

ps : Sorry admin for thread location.

I don't know maybe it's just me and my area, but that's nothing at all. Happens all the time. No one does the exact limit around here.

Re: Conversion help please.

The main cruise control module is right to the left of the engine. It's the vacuum source, throttle cable, and module all in one piece. It's a black cone looking thing IIRC and is held on with 2 bolts.
