Smile Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

Well I got a good offer on a turbo so I decided to buy it. It turns out its this Garrett GT42. Well I got it today and that thing is kinda big. Is this a good turbo. I am getting nitrous by the end of next week so without nitrous, what will be the spool time of 20psi on my 2.3 stroker ??? So basicly my questions is, when will I get 20psi from a GT42 on 2.3 stroker. I hope its not at 8000rpms.

that is a drag ONLY turbo, you will have to spool it with nitrous

Not to mention you'll need slicks, atleast link if not EMS, 1600cc injectors, you'll be running through trannies, t cases, etc. I would sell it man, that is not something you want.

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

the manifold you will need will cost more than most DSMs

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

I think I will give it a try. I mean, it cant be that bad. Maybe 1st gear will suck but i think I can get more boost at 2nd and it will pull real nice in 3rd. I am currently searching for a manifold but I think I want to see what this turbo is capable of. I did say that one day ( maybe sooner now ) I would like to run 9's. DSMlink will be here soon too and a TRE tranny. I am building a drag car. I have something to prove to someone including myself that I could make a fast car. Maybe next year or so I will make it a street car again but for now its all about horsepower and speed. It will be on the speedway a lot . But seriously, what will be my spool time. 20psi at what rpms on a 2.3 stroker without nitrous for now.

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

about 5500rpm... No joke... I know a guy who ran one on a dsm and he ditched it after just a few times of running it... He said when it came on it was incredibly hard and amazing, but he just didn't wanna rev the motor as high as that turbo needs... I honestly wouldn't run it either unless it was an all out track car.

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

If thats what you really want then ok, but be sure you know what you're doing. That 3200 is probably not enough, you're going to need a cage (and a pretty damn good one too), an entirely new fuel system (no chance for the 255, you'll need a fuel cell, new lines), and be sure to have atleast one extra set of axles and a rear end. Street tires wont hold up for that kind of abuse, you'll need some slicks which arent cheep either. I wouldnt personally do it because that will not be a streetable car when its done and that stuff is going to cost a LOT of money.

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

it also depends on the a/r of your turbo. You're not going to be very streetable but with a stutter box you will fly. And if your looking to get rid of your 60-1 let me know

Looks like he already has a cage, He could run either dual 255s or run an aeromotive pump in seires and have more than enough fuel and running stainless lines wouldnt be an issue. Where it ges really expensive is the driveline. You should get either a stage 4 tranny or a doxbox with a built tcase and dss axles if you want to do it right the first time. If you want ideas search for E-klips. I believe he was running the same setup

EDIT: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...=533066&page=2
There you go. Doesnt look to bad, can still be daily driven I guess, but you'll need a 12pt cage for 9 sec runs

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

God damit, there is a kind here selling a brand new Greddy T67 turbo. Its like a 25G or something and flows enought for decent power. Jesus, so many turbos I am gojng insane. Get this for high end power but bad spool, get this for fast spool but bad end power, or maybe this will be better or that, IS THERE A PERFECT TURBO SO I CAN BUY IT. And my turbo just took a shit 5 mins ago, i went to the gas station for some hot fries and when I started the car to get back home there was a black cloud out of my exhaust. It was standing in the air behind my car and not moving, I swear I could write my name on it.

Re: Umm, what did I buy ... ?? GT42

I am pretty sure its the turbo itself. I have been pushing it lately and its gonna be apart soon for a rebuild maybe if it needs one. I will see in a couple of minutes. Also I told my friend and he has a Garrett with manifold and external wastegate and that thing is a GT35. He said around $400 for the setup and it has less then 1k on it. So who thinks I should get the T67 (25G). Also a quick, really really noobie question. What will fit a T3 turbo. A T3/T4 manifold ???
