GTO vs. STI: place yer bets.
So a bunch of people think it would be close huh? no not really. My best friend owns one, I've driven it so often, I know exactly what its made of.
So Im heading to work and a guy in a 06 with the Tribeca style nose comes buzing down the road and starts tailing me. Due to traffic he swings around and pulls past me very slowly. (we where going 40 mph in midday traffic ) But I guess since his lane was a bit quicker then mine he thought he was smoking hot! He leaves me at a light and I figure fuck it, I know what I can do. Three blocks later I catch up and we start playing around pulling on each other but the road is a bit crowded so nothing crazy. Finally by sheer luck we get a light and I lower my window. me: this is it bro you gonna play? him: Dude I got AWD, your just gonna loose. me: I can tell, but Im not stock so your gonna have to launch hard okay. seriously Im cammed and bored out with re-enforced diff and launch control. I get 1.7 60 times consecutively and Im rolling on 580 WHP! so you fucking rev that biotch to 7K and drop it! him: (eyes bulgeing out) ..................oh, shit dude........uhmmm I dont know. me: okay okay, I'll take off the launch control and put the traction on. but seriously crank that bitch up and drop the clutch hard bro! him: uhhmmmm......okay. Light goes green and just as I expected he pussy foots it off the line. I roll onto it slow but forget it, once Im past the point of traction loss (3K) I gun it and he falls back. The STI's tranny is not meant for straight line accel. You have to shift too often and too quickly. I can hold 1st to 6K and he will have shifted to 2nd and topping. By the time Im half way through 2nd he will be entering 3rd. Its just a loss of time and ground. I had two cars by 3rd gear. See all those mags crank up the engine and drop it, I know, Ive done it. Thats the only way to achieve 13 second 1/4 miles. But if you own it you dont wanna drop it from rev-limit every single run. if you just roll onto it those cars are only about 14.3-14.5 seconds quick. Mushy for the win. P.S. Transformers the movie in theaters 7.4.7 Dont know why I mention that here but transformers rule okay! Fa-Q

Actually the STi's tranny/diff are more durable then the regular WRX. It's not common for them to blow up due to launching at catastrophic rpms. Most of the problems i've heard of with them is people not dyno tuning them with mods, and engine failure happening shortly thereafter. Ehh, they are 13 sec. cars, but it's like you said.
Mod wise though, don't run into someone that knows WTF they are doing with the car. Shiv got 350whp with very little mods on one with his dyno (Your car would probably put down around 310whp on his dyno, it's that conservative). Anyways, good kill. Your buddy drives like a sissy.

when you said he rolled off the launch you automatically won the race....this is true though....stock if you dont launch AWD cars like they are supposed to be launched or bog the launch then your 13s pass your supposed to get turns into a 14-15s pass....happens all the time....as far as the trannys or diffs going out on STIs they actually are pretty stout...compared to the EVO....about 5 redline launches on a EVO say good by to your stock clutch....and a few after that say good by to your T-case....but I still would prefer a EVO over an STI.....

I would have put my money on you whether or not he launched. It would have been nice to see how he did with a good launch though.

I agree with you on the STI not being as fast as the hype. I ran one on the highway a year or so ago with the mustang and nobody was gaining ground. I am sure he had a better shot from a dig, but as it stood, it wasn't all that fast to me.

this really depends on the driver.
true story guys. my two really good friends, one owns a 360+whp bpu supra and the other owns a 260-270whp STi. they both raced from a dig. since the STi owner knew he was short around 100whp, he showed the supra friend no mercy. he launched the sucker at 7K and smoked the supra by bus lenghts down the 1/4. the supra owner ( matt spoke to him before, ( its ben or chilisauce ) and he launched with the traction control on, and he doesn't drag race. but once they both go rolling after that crazy take off, the supra wasn't gaining ground at all. this happend on the same day the supra just got dynoed at 360+whp.
