Good luck with the build!
It seems that transparent resin is awful - do you think it can be polished?

any transparent resin, or resin can be sanded and polished. The problem is in the clarity of the casted pieces. I use a lot of resin outside of modelling. It should take a high shine if done correctly, but sometimes the clarity can be poor inside, or in the middle of the piece. bubbles and such.

Just that resin is brittle but fairly hard. You can treat it like paint, sand and polish it, then polish with a compound. It won't get a deep glass like polish but it will take a nice shine. It will also be damaged by friction/heat like paint. Not a whole lot too it. Resin is also less stable than styrene when it comes to UV sunlight
