Window Help

3 Of My Four Windows Are Not Working. I Can Hear The Motor In Two Of Them But One Is Silent. I Took The Door Panels Off And Took Out The Motor In The Right Drivers Side. There Were Some Loose Wires Hanging Down With Some Springs On Them.
Should I Replace The Motor And Regulator Or What?
I Have Never Had Experience With These. Should I Have Someone Else Install Them? I Can Usually Do Anything That I Set My Mind Out To Do. Is It Hard??

Re: Window Help

The one with the wires hanging will need a regualtor assembly. The wires you describe are the cables that pull the window up and down, and are broken. The others may just need motors, but an inspection will be necessary. You can buy aftermarket motor/regulator assemblies much cheaper than OEM ones made by Dorman and other companies.

I wanted to say thank you soooo much for helping me. I kind of feel like pulling my hair out!! Should I attempt to put the new stuff in or should I take it to someone to have it done? I found some really good deals on regualtors and motors on ebay.

Re: Window Help

You're welcome. They are not that difficult to do. Once you get the inner door pad off, you're half way home.

Re: Window Help

mrelmo,

thanks for the advice on directauto.com. i just ordered two window regulator assemblies from them (left rear and front right). i installed the left rear assembly last week and it works well...

only word of caution for anyone out there trying this is that the assemblies do not come with any screws, so make sure you don't drop any in the door panel while removing old motor and regulator assembly (and while disconnecting the window!). also, the window bottom edge did not rest completely against the replacement regulator tab mounts as i would have liked, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Re: Window Help

ok i have a follow up on my windw motor replacement, when i went to place the motor and regulator just for the hell of it i plugged in the old motor (after i installed the new one) don't you know the old one worked fine, it seems that the window was frozen in place closed, i had to force the glass down, well i put the old one back in and i know this is not the for sale section but i did not return the new one because of the shipping and restocking fee. so first check that the glass is not frozen in place and if anyone is looking for a right rear window assm, for a 03 grand prix i have 1 cheap thanks
