Re: 1989 buick century headliner help
This is how you replace a headliner.
1. Remove headliner. (carefull) 2. Peel off the fabric it will come right off. 3. The foam will stay on the cardboard, this comes off with a metal brush, or wire wheel. You can go to wal-mart and buy a bar-b-q cleaner brush, those work great. 4. while you scrub the foam off, use your other hand to support the back side when you are doing the corners cause they break easily. make sure you have support in the middle when you are scrubbing the middle of the headliner, so in other words do it on a firm table. DONT SCRUB TO HARD. JUST ENOUGH TO REMOVE THE OLD FOAM. 5. Lay the headliner material over the board fold it in half. spray the board and the material. let the adhesive set for just a minute then you grab a corner your buddy grabs the other.with one hand massage the material onto the board.do not pull the material to hard.. next fold the other half do the same. 6. cut the holes out for your visors lights etc.... .fold and glue the edges over and you are done sounds eaasy huh.. DO NOT USE THAT GLUE IN A CAN, IT WILL FALL OFF IN A MONTH. the stuff to use is from a company called "DAP" WELDWOOD LANDAU TOP ADHESIVE CHECK OUT THERE WEB SITE quoted from Layitlow forum. |

Re: 1989 buick century headliner help
I re-did my interior and had an upholstery place recover the headliner. I have the tan interior. I steam cleaned the seats and door panels with quick-n-brite and replaced the carpeting and rear window fabric. Turned out nice IMO.
