Question New Intake Gaskets

Well I was forced to change the intake gaskets in my '98 5.7. Been feeding this thing Bars leak for about 4 years now (I was keeping a very close eye on the oil all coolent was leaking outside) but the thing finally blew a chunk out. Everything went real smooth. I was even prepared for the heater hose quick disconnect to break off. What I wasn't prepared for was the fact that I had to spend about 2 hours just chiseling out little pieces of the damn thing and still ended "retapping" the hole because I could not get any threads cleaned out. Question now is that I used Teflon Thread Sealer when I put in the steel unit but it is not doing the job. Should I re-due with a Silicon product or is there something better?

Otherwise, thing runs great, especially since I replaced "original equipment" plugs, cap and rotor that had 150,000 miles on them. I went with the Autolite Platinums because I was not going to pop $13 EACH for the AC's.

Re: New Intake Gaskets

I have better luck with a thread sealant which is in paste form instead of the tape. You can get it most parts stores or even a hardware store in the plumbing department.

Re: New Intake Gaskets

Kind of figured I should have use something a little heavier. This Teflon stuff was in a tube, but I think more applicable to none pressurized applications. Thanks for the advise.
