Question Traction Control System - Problem or not?

Hello,
I just bought a 2000 Venture, and I was (*gasp*) reading the owners manual, when I came to a segment talking about the TCS. It stated that if it was working properly, the words "TRACTION CONTROL" would flash momentarily in the message center when starting the car. It went on to say that if that message did NOT momentarily appear, then there is a problem with the TCS, and it needs repaired.

I have never seen that message appear. I have a "TCS Off" switch in my center console, and toggling it turns an idiot light (labelled "TCS Off") in the instrument cluster on and off. But I also owned a 2000 Silhouette with TCS, and it never gave the "TRACTION CONTROL" wording in the message center, either.

SO, either both vehicles have malfunctioning TCS, or the manual is not correct. Can someone please verify for me whether or not that message should appear every time the car is started?

Thank you!!
