Saving Fuel
Would like to know do we save gas if we turn the car off at a stop signal. I have heard we use more gas if shut off and start at a signal.
Some signals around main intersections and small road crossings have more than 2/3 minutes wait period. Does it help in turning off the car. If not what is the minimum time one should turn off the car when idealing? Thank you. |

Re: Saving Fuel
Generally, I've heard if you are going to be idling more than a minute, it may be a good idea to turn off the engine. (I do this at a drive thru now with good reults.) Here is a link to an article that discusses this further with more info: http://www.cleverdude.com/content/sa...e-when-idling/

Re: Saving Fuel
I'm not too sure, but what I've started doing, is switching into Neutral once I stop at the light.
By now, I got the timing down pretty good, so I know when my turn will be next, giving me time to switch back into drive, and go ![]() I know I read somewhere, you know how when your foot is on the brake, let off the brake, and your car crawls forward, even though you aren't giving gas. So it must be using gas. Well, by switching into Neutral the car can't "try" to lerch forward, while your foot is on the brake. I guess it makes sense, so this is what I've been doing, and it's less wear on the starter/ignition, stopping and starting at every light, if you know what I mean. |
