white smoke from exhaust, antifreeze in oil

Definately needed to replace intake manifold gaskets, but how can I tell if I need to go deeper into my project and go down the head gaskets?

Re: white smoke from exhaust, antifreeze in oil

If you have white smoke coming from the exhaust, especially if it is large quantities of smoke and it smells like antifreeze then you need to change the head gaskets as well as the lower intake manifold gaskets. If it is only a small amount it may be normal. I suggest that you don't put off the repairs and don't drive the vehicle as you will damage the bearings if you have water in the oil.

You may want to try a compression test to see if you have a leaking head gasket before pulling it apart. This should give you some indication of the condition of the head gaskets.
