Numerous problems w/ my 2000 Grand Marquis
I inherited my grandad's 2000 Grand Marquis. Unfortunately, the car sat for about 2 years before I got it. It had less than 20,000 miles on it and I was thrilled to have it. UNTIL...the quirky and annoying probs began. First, the ac blower motor stopped blowing. AC runs, but nothing comes out. My husband replaced the blower motor twice, but didn't help. Oddly enough, one morning I was running the heater (which only put out heat at a trickle and when the car is going) and all of a sudden the blower started working again and worked all summer! Then at the end of the summer, it stopped working again. Now the defroster and heat only put out when I'm driving. Could it be that I need the mega expensive blower motor switch or that there is some short in the system? Next, my interior lights appear to be haunted, as they come on and off by themselves. We finally had to take the bulbs out as the fuses apparently effect the whole lighting system, and it finally ran down my battery. Thirdly, I have a terrible time starting the car. It's like it's starved for fuel. It wants to start and in order to get it to catch I have to press the gas, which can't be good for a fuel injected system. We've been told it's probably the throttle body is clogged and have sprayed it w/ throttle body cleaner spray numerous times, which helps a little bit, but not much. Sometimes it will finally start, but cut off on me even as I would slow down in traffic. When I first began driving the car, it had terrible wind noise, which we finally figured out was b/c there was no weather stripping (or whatever you call it) on the driver's side under the hood. So we put some on and it seemed to clear that up. Does anyone else have these weird problems? Any advice? I can't afford major repairs right now and these things are starting to drive me batty! I've been thinking that perhaps some of these things were from the car sitting for so long w/o being driven much. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks!!

Re: Numerous problems w/ my 2000 Grand Marquis
As far as the blower motor, I would look at all connections before I started replacing parts. Sounds like there is a connection that is not fully seated or has corrosion on the connections.
As far as the lights, try spraying lubricant into the door latshes and open and close each door a few times to see if it helps any. On the dying issue, clean or replace the Idle Speed Control motor. It is located in the rear center top of the engine bolted to the throttle body.

Re: Numerous problems w/ my 2000 Grand Marquis
I was having a lot of electrical problems with my car like fuses blowing, lights not working, lights flickering, being stuck in park, etc. and it all boiled down to a recall that's mentioned in this thread...

Re: Numerous problems w/ my 2000 Grand Marquis
Thanks so much, way2old! We are going to look into your sage advice! As for the light problem, we had already sprayed the door latches on 2 separate occaisions and it sadly didn't work as we had hoped. Any other thoughts on that? We took out the bulbs and I can live w/o the interior light coming on for awhile but would like for it to be fixed for good. I guess these Grand Marquis have a history of quirky problems? The joke in our house is that grandad is haunting my car!
We first noticed it on Halloween night! Thanks again--we are going to try what you advised! I appreciate your response--these things have been driving me crazy!! ![]() Alli |

Re: Numerous problems w/ my 2000 Grand Marquis
Thanks, stranger! I will def. try that. Any free fix is appreciated! I have had weird electrical stuff happen, such as one day the passenger side window wouldn't work, the light thing, and a couple of other things.
I appreciate the info! Thanks! Alli |
