My 92 Lumina needs help, runs like it has a rev limiter on it

i have a 1992 chevy luminia with a 3.1 auto, it runs fine unless you try to go over 50 mph, i was told it needed a new fuel pump, so i just put a new pump, strainer and filter on it, and it still runs like it has a rev limiter on it, you get it over 50 or about 2000 to 2500 rpm and it cuts in and out, it idles fine, i soot starting fluid and sprayed all around the top end of the motor and nothing changes,, i was told to try that to see if it had any bad vacume lines on it, im lost right now, i am good with the old school electronics but not this newer stuff, it is not showing any codes, this was my parents car and was allways serviced at the dealer and well taken care of, this all started when i had to park it for a while due to health problems, but now that i need it, it is messin with me,, lol,, anybody have any ideas ?, i am at wits end right now tryind to figure it out and dont have the cash flow right now to take it in ,,,

VSS signal might be corrupt?

Cruise control work?

thank you for the sugestion, i am not sure if the cruise works or not, i have never used it and the car is at a friends house right now, he was helping me put the gas tank back in, i was not sure that a 1992 had the vss or not, and not to seem stupid, but if you could tell me where it is,, sorry like i saidi am not to good on the computerized cars, and maybe i should have said it does it no matter if it is being drove or sitting in park or neutral,

i had similar problem but not at 50mph i thought it was egr valve cuz it over heated alot, after showing same problems with urs turns out in the end the calaylic concert the ceramic exploded inside and jammed the pipe so it over heated and i couldnt go very fast

probably not ur case but if nothing works try that

Since it does it revving in nuetral, I'm sure the VSS is not involved, we can scratch that...

Sounds like something a faulty ECM would do...Richtazz?

Thank you for the help guys, i got it fixed today, ended up being the tps, throttle position senser, now she is running like she use to,, thanks for your help,,,,,
