93 Dynasty running rich!!! Help!
Hi i'm new!! i'm mostly a toyota 4X4 guy....
so my friends Dynasty is running pretty rich, when it does run....it doesn't run for long (once its hot she doesn't want to start, but with pumping the gas she will and puff black fogs, and spit n sputter), me and a friend have been leaning towards the mass airflow sensor. thinkin its sayin that theres lots of air flowing through, ya kow? so i'm hunting for a M.A.S or is it M.A.P.? oh and this is a 93 3.3L Dynasty, i read alittle about the 4spd trannys being alittle on the crappy side but doesn't apply to this problem. any expierienced help would b greatly appreciated!! |

Re: 93 Dynasty running rich!!! Help!
could be the MAF, but I would definitely check the air snorkel between the MAF and throttle body for splits, leaks, or disconnected lines.
There's a few other things that could cause a real rich conditions, such as bad O2's, bad fuel pressure regulators, bad coolant/intake temp sensors.

Re: 93 Dynasty running rich!!! Help!
well i'm alittle lost, i phoned a used parts place and they told me that there was no such part for that year/model!! it turns out that the part that i thought was the mass aif flow senser is a engine computer, according to the haynes manual. i phoned up my mechanic/friend and he said to start at the catalatic converter, if that doesn't do it then the M.A.P. senser.....the only problem is that her and i are broke, so it just makes it that much worse!! lol
I thank You for your help!! i'll definatly b checking them parts too!! hopefully this weekend we can get it done!! |

I know my old 88 pontiac firebird's converter has been clogged before and was doing very similar things that you've stated the dynasty is doing. http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalytic_converters.html Check this link out, it could possibly help you out. If that helps but your still experiencing rough running you may want to check the O2 sensor while your underneath the beast checking the converter. Usually the O2 sensor doesn't start to kick in until the coolent temp sensor tells the cpu the car is warmed up. So the O2 could be causing some problems once your car gets into a warm enough operating range and the cpu begins to take the O2 sensor into consideration. Also the cpu usually ignores the O2 sensor during wide open throttle conditions (since maximum throttle will require a lot of enrichment). That could possibly explain why the car will still run when you pump the throttle to keep it going. Of coarse this is all speculation and its hard to tell what it is without being there. Its definately worth a look if your down there anyways. Good luck!
