SOHC Question
This is a really stupid question but I don't know the answer so I'm gonna ask anyways. I know in SOHC vtec engines the cam opens the intake valves in both vtec and non vtec mode. Here's the stupid question - does the same cam open the exhaust valves or what? And, if the same cam opens the exhaust valves, why doesn't the vtec work for the exhaust valves like it does in DOHC vtec engines? Keep in mind that I am only 19 and have done very little actual engine work in my life, so don't laugh at me too hard.

Yeah, the cam in a sohc engages both the intake and exhaust valves.
