HELP on rim issue!!

Me and my guys were driving around at our "so call touge" and I accidently dented both of my stock passenger side rims. They are pretty badly dented and both of my tires are flat. So I'm thinking about getting new rims (asap). I'm wondering if anyone knows if I could get any of the following size. 17x7, 17x7.5, 18x7.5, 18x8, and or 18x8.5. Right now I have in mind of two sets of rims that are 17x7.5 and 18x8.5. Can anyone tell me if it's possible for me to get either one of these? I'm also wondering if I could get a set of deep dish rims on my 3000gt. If I could, how deep can I get them or does it even matter?

Re: HELP on rim issue!!

What model do you have, a TT or NA? Vr4 calipers are pretty large and cause fitment issues with many wheels...so our aftermarket is pretty small when it comes to rims. If you do a search for 'rims' you should find plenty of threads on the subject which list what wheels do and do not fit.

If you have a vr4, you don't want 17x7.5...that's too narrow. Have you thought about just getting used stock wheels for cheap? Also make sure you have somebody take a look at your suspension. Your alignment is probably completely screwed up which will need to be fixed, but more importantly you wanna make sure nothing broke or is about to the first time you take the car up to 80mph.

Re: HELP on rim issue!!

Check out Ebay. You will find some original equipment chrome rims that look to be good quality at a good price. My feeling is that the original rims look great while you are taking a gamble on the looks of new rims. In my case, I bought some non stock rims and I am disappointed at their appearence as opposed to the stock chrome. Also, if you go with an 18" the lower profile tire can have a profound effect on ride quality. Of course if you are young, that probably won't make a difference. Also, as you messed up your rims, I should add that you might want to be careful pushing this car too fast around corners. I messed up my original rims this way. In my case, the car gave me NO warning of what was to happen. There was no squealing tires, tire smoke, body roll, nothing. In fact, the [email protected] web site has several other owners who have asked about this. As a result, I made sure to get a tire that would give me a little better grip. Good Luck.

Re: HELP on rim issue!!

like Igo said, if you have a vr4/tt, stock wheels are 8.5in wide. anything less is a downgrade.

deep dish style rims will probably stick out. you want your offset to be +35 to +45, somewhere in that area. "deep dish" wheels are usually 0 or - offset. There are some wheels for our cars that have more lip than others, but if you want more that 2in or so of lip, they're gonna stick out.

here is a pic of mine. The offset is about +25 (they stick out past the fenders about 1/2 an inch)

for more pics and specs on custom wheels 3/s owners have used, check out this thread...

So do you think that 18x8.5 would fit on my base model 3000gt?

I already checked out ebay, but there isn't anything I like besides the ADR Msport rims. But I found those rims on another site that is cheaper. I don't really want to go with black or gun metal color rims, I just want to stay with Chrome, silver, or high light.

I have a 3000gt Base model. I don't really want to stick with the stock wheels. Personally they aren't my type of wheels. I'm looking more into the deep dish type of rims, I personally like them more and think they are more attractive to the eyes.

Re: HELP on rim issue!!

After my dealings with chrome I would HIGHLY recommend against it. If you want a decent shiny wheel get polished. Looks near as good as chrome and not near the hassle.

Yeah I guess, but I don't plan on doing anything to my car any more. Just going to get some nice set of rims and drop it a bit. Drive it around whenever is good. I have a IS300 for a daily driven car already.

Re: HELP on rim issue!!

since you have a base, caliper clearence isnt an issue. Just search for bolt pattern 5x114.3 and offset somewhere between +30 to +45.
