98 1500 Transfer Case?

Hi there. Just recently I was pulling into my place and the driveshaft locked up and it felt like i was being rear ended. I know its the driveshaft that was locked. I jacked up the front and back and spun all the tires to make sure it wasn't at the axles. I've blown a transfer case before, and when I did it cracked visibly right down the center and the vehicle could operate as if the clutch was engaged permanently. This time, the opposite is true. If i tried to move the truck it would kill if I let out the clutch, as it should, but it still wouldn't move. I also can only get it to get into different gears (4H, 2H, N, 2L) by having someone rock the truck back in forth while cranking on the knob in the truck. So, it seems as if the problem is at the transfer case, but its so much different than the experiences I've had in the past. I know its a problem for this year truck, but I also know that if it breaks it generally cracks like my first one did. Long story short, I had to take the driveshaft off to move it into the driveway. I was just wondering if anybody had any idea what the problem could be. Thanks in advance for any help
