Intake manifold leak
My daughter has a 99 Bonnivile with only 50k miles on it. Last fall it started losing antifreeze inside the engine and screwed the motor completely. We didnt even tear it down, just pulled it and replaced it with a used one out of a Buick of the same year. Ran just fine till three days ago when she phoned me with the news that this one was doing the same thing [losing water] again. We got into it and turned out to be the upper intake manifold. They are plastic and somehow it got burned at a spot around the egr valve or close by. After a new manifold, price $350.00 and some labour its running fine again. Now I was led to belive that the 3.8 engine did not have this fault but perhaps Im wrong. This is two of them now. Also had a Grand AM with the 3.4 that the intake gasket started leaking so got rid of that one. Has anyone else had this problem with their Bonniville? Im beginning to have a real dislike for Pontiac and even all GM products......

Re: Intake manifold leak
awhh man why did'nt you come here before u did the work...doing mine myself...read this whole thing and you'll understand
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38 and i did this for under 300 bucks with parts and paying the mech to help me....trust me, it's nothing hard about doing it yuorself...dont give the shops nothing...all you need is a socket set, a torque socket set, a phillips and flat head screw driver http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...+minimeet+pics Last edited by showshocka2k; 03-22-2007 at 02:19 AM. |

Re: Intake manifold leak
Thanks very much for the reply and info on the upper intake. Was good reading. Seems I always come across info like this after the fact. Yes the uim we got had the smaller pipe with it and also some parts of the gaskets were of a different colour and composition too. Only thing we didnt do was the lower intake. Too late now. Will just have to hope for a bit of luck. The $350.00 price I paid for the part was Canadian price and we get shafted a little harder on just about everything up here. Anyway I appreciate the info. Will see how it holds together now. My daughter only drives it short trips and thats always kind of hard on any vehicle but thats life.....Regards...were on the road again....
