E39 - '97 528i 5spd. Supercharge it?

Had it since 2001. 105,000 mi. My first german car. Pleased that it is very reliable and drives like a dream, albeit a slightly underpowered dream. Electronics are a bit quirky but the occasional problems subside after "reboot" (restart).

I am considering the ESS TX 114-01 aftermarket supercharger. It is a clutched centrifugal blower with clean install and reasonably smooth performance. Problem is, it's $6k+ new. The car is only worth $9k to $10k.

Anybody know a shop or yard that may have one of these ESS blower kits laying around? Has anybody here put a blower on the straight 6 engine? (do M3's have the same motor?). If so, your feedback would be most appreciated.

Economically, is it smarter to trade up for a '00 or '01 M5 (mid $20's) instead?

Last request - the stereo (base factory) is by far the WORST I've had in any car since my first, a '71 mustang in college. It is difficult to upgrade the BMW system (other than changing speakers). So do I punt the whole system and install aftermarket sound? Suggestions, please.

Sorry for the loooong post.
