2001 Windstar ABS and Brake warning lights come on

Hello gentlemen and ladies,

First let me say thank you very much for all that contribute you have literally saved me hours of time and hundreds of dollars.

I have a 2001 Windstar SEL, 3.8L, front discs, rear drum. All was well with no warning lights until I decided to do a brake job and ended up finding a bad rear driver side wheel cylinder. I replaced the wheel cylinder, and all shoes, both drums, front pads, and rotors. I bleed the line for the replaced cylinder and believe I got all the air out. However my pedal still seem a bit spongy. My friend suggested that we bleed all lines and we proceeded to do that. The pedal then seemed to be ok,perhaps very slightly spongy. However since that time, I get the ABS and the brake warning light on after driving a short distance. If I shut the van off, they will usually reset but then come in again. Sometimes just the ABS, then followed by the brake light. Eventually, both will come on. I have endlessly read all the threads and have come up with a game plan. I plan to clean the ABS sensors as described, also check the resistance, and possibly replace the switch that is mounted on the bottom of the master cylinder. I have visually inspected the wires and rings and all looks fine. Additionally, twice in the 6 years that I have owned the vehicle the speedometer acted funny by reading way low and at that time the cruise control did not work. But this is not happening currently, and both ABS and Brake lights are on. Fluid level is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions thay may save me some time. Thanks

Sounds like you have air in the ABS valve body. Only way to bleed this is to connect to a bi-directional scan tool that has ABS software in it. Use the scan tool to command a bleed procedure.
