2002 Z24 coupe, should i get it?
Hi All!!!
I'm looking for a new car, and was checking out the 2002 Z24 Coupe.. It's 150HP, 2.4L, 5-speed Manual.. Has anyone heard anything about these cars? I heard they don't exist, but I saw a few yesterday at the dealership, so I know they do. Does this car have balls? Thanks! |

The dealer sticker on my 2002 cavy says that it's a z24, but it's an LS Sport. The last z24 production year was '01 (no z24 on chevy's website anymore). Check and see if the z24 logos are on the car. A better idea is to pop open the hood and see if it has a 2.4 engine common to the Z24 or if it has the 2.2 Ecotec (about a 10hp difference between the two, both are DOHC). Some uncrupulous dealer might simply place z24 logos on an LS Sport, although the reason for that eludes me.
Of course, the car might be an '01 model.

i actually got the new 4-door Z24...it does have the Z24 logo, and the engine is a 2.4L...apparently these were just made for the first part of 2002, now all Z24's will have the 2.2L Ecotec..
i am new to driving manual transmission....sometimes i can smell something after i get out of my car...it's almost like a burning smell...am i messn' up my clutch? could it be the new brakes working in (if they even have too)? typically, what RPM do you usually shift gears? i go about 3000-3500....the redline is about 5750... Thanks for helping out a new owner of a Z24!!! |

The Z24 was made for the 1st few months of the new model year, but were phased out...you MIGHT find a few laying around dealerships....but the ecotec is the newer powerplant
Look for a LS Sport Check out www.j-body.org |

shifting
Depends on how fast you are accelerating. I have a 2000 Z24 2.4 dohc 5 speed and i am really good at driving/racing. If you are a quick driver shift around or over 3,000 if you drive slow then 2,500. you can hear in wyning too much. You can hear it better with intake and exhaust
now you just need to learn how to do heal to toe, rev matching, and double clutching and you can save your life if you need to lol its surprising how many ppl drive standards and don't really know how, not that your one of them, i'm just saying. Oh and if you race shift real fast you go faster just try not to hit the rev limiter. OH and your car is governed at 108mph so don't hit the governor its not too pleasant. It will jerk the car real bad. hmm what else... oh if you get wheel hop of the line rev it up higher and if you do a big burnout slip it. At the track always slip it. But don't slip too much you'll burn out your clutch. I like those 4 door Z24's they are pretty quick. If you can drive fast enough you'll see nice 1/4 times of 15.5. Theres a guy that has the new GM blower on his buts he has audio crap in there and it has air bags so he's not about going fast. All he did with that blower is restor lost horsepower. It would be hard to get around without it. Any other questions on how to race email me at [email protected]
