Replacing Gear Shift Handle on 2004 Pontiac Grand Am

I need help, the button on my gear shifter has popped out because a piece broke. Is this something that can be replaced by me or my husband? And does anyone know how?

Welcome to AF.

If its an automatic then thier is a "U" shaped clip ring in the front of the shifter handle.
A small screw driver will pop it right out.
