'93 muffler/exhaust size questions

I have a '93 gc laredo 4.0 and I'm looking at putting on a cat-back 2.5 exhaust system. Now the question is how much would the piping from the cat-back cost? And from where? Another question, i have an aftermarket muffler already (it was free)and the inlets are 3", if I put it on my 2.5 piping would the 3" tubing in the muffler cause a loss of performace? Could I place it closer to the end to reduce performace loss? or should I buy a muffler to fit? Also how much are mufflers and are they straight through(unlike the VERY restrictive stock one)? I'm on a budget so I'm trying to go as cheap as possible, trying to stick close to $100 maybe a little more for the whole setup. sorry for so many q's and thanx in advance for the info.

Re: '93 muffler/exhaust size questions

If you look under your Jeep, you'll notice there isn't much pipe from the muffler. The muffler should be right next to the catalytic converter and the pipe coming off the muffler is the tail pipe. IMO, buying a catback would be a waste of money. You have 2 options... 1) Be cheap and have your wrong inlet/outlet sized muffler put in place of the old one and have a muffler shop mate the after cat pipe to the muffler as 2.5-3" and then have your tailpiping go smaller back to 2.5" or stay 3" mandrel bent to the back of the Jeep. Or you can run a turndown right out of the muffler and just not have a tailpipe. It probably won't scavenge much from the cat 2.5 to the muffler 3". But going back to 2.5 out of bigger 3" muffler might not be too wise. 2) Buy the correct sized diameter muffler and use the correct matching piping sized. Have a muffler shop that can do mandrel bends with alumnized piping. It shouldn't cost very much either.
