The 99-06 models were a disappointment? This is news to me. Who told you of this dissappointment?

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

Well let me see,
Known issues that GM refused to address from the 99 to 2006(?) years,
My 99 Z71 had them all.

Fuel Pump Problems
Wind Noise in the Extended Cab windows
Stearing Colum clunk
Transmission Clunk 2-3 up/down shift
Piston Slap
Fuel Gauge Issues (Sending Unit)
Rotting Tailgate Cables
Hi failure rate of ABS Controller (Location Issue)

Most of these issues were from day 1 and still there when I sold the truck 4 years later.

Really left a sour taste in my mouth for a $50K vehicle.

I really hope you didn't pay $50k for a Z71. I'd be pissed off if I got screwed outta that much money, too.

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

Yes, there were "a lot" of problems with the 99-06 models, but they were great looking. While I had a few issues with mine, none of them prevented me from getting to my destination. My biggest complaint, which after sitting in a new one is still not quite right, is the seating position. I can't stand the seat not being more square with the drivers seat.

I would love to buy another '99 and turn it into one clean sport truck.

I think the dumbest thing GM did was make a 2wd version of the Z71. How stupid. Offer a similar package similar to it, but don't name it Z71.

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

i really dont like the looks for this new silverado....the new sierra looks a little better but the 99-06 models are far better looking but i think they keep destroying these trucks of their dignity each year they look like they are getting smaller and less ground clearance but they are making up for it with the vortec maxx but i am torn if i would consider buying a new silverado/sierra

Of these problems, the windows and steering clunk were fixed under warranty, and the cables were actually recalled, FYI. I've not had any of the other issues you mentioned.

You're definitely in the wrong place if you're trying to tell us our trucks were a disappointment.

Frankly, I'm not sure it was the truck that left the bad taste in your mouth.

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

Yup I purchased the truck in Jan, 2000. Sticker price of $41,750 + 15% taxes where I live. I have always owned GM trucks (8 new ones to be exact) and I must say this was without a doubt the worse piece of junk I ever owned.
And yes "Blenderwizzard" I am quite sure it was the truck that left a sour taste in my mouth. Sorry to bust your bubble, but these trucks were total junk and a embarrasment to GM.

Damn, seriously, if I paid $50k for a chevy truck, I'd be pissed, too.

You got ripped by your salesman.

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

Actually that is the price of these trucks here in Canada. A fully loaded 1/2 ton Z71 new today would cost in excess of $50K after taxes. Like I said, the problems I had with my 99 should never have been issues in the 2000 to 2006 models. This is what I am basing my opinion on. GM knew of them and didn't address them. Totally irresponsible.

Re: 2007 Truck of the Year???

If they are junk to you, go buy a hemi, titan, F-150, Tundra, or any other truck, drive it for a couple of years, and then come back and tell us how perfect your truck has been to you. Even by that time I'm sure none of us will still care. You're trying to use your own opinion as fact that these trucks are a disappointment to GM, based solely off of problems far less than other brand trucks experience. The reality of things is that 99% of the truck owners in this section is happy with their purchase, as is every other gm forum I'm a member of. Sorry, but stouting out a few recalls and other tidbit problems does not make it a disappointment to gm.

Stouting out a few problems?????? These were issues that GM didn't fix even though they new about them.

You know, I would have defended the GM name myself years ago. I out grew that immature faze. I purchased my trucks as work trucks and trailer haulers. I did notice on this site that most of you guys are more concerned with how fast and who you can beat with your trucks but as far as I am concerned it is just a truck. Pumping money hand over fist into what is essentially a work vehicle makes ho sense to me. Why not buy a sports car? Back in my day I owned my share of "Muscle" cars, including Stangs, Cuda's, Nova SS, and so on. So to see someone brag that their pickup truck can beat another by 1/2 a second doesn't impress me.

Slow,
I just want to let you know that you impress me (well, actually your truck does, I mean don't get me wrong I am sure your a nice guy and all....), so you have my vote!!

Mork,
As for a work vehicle, yes that is definitely what it is, but that does not limit us from making it go faster, look better, etc.. I would go as far as to say that we are practical people with nice rides that ALSO get work done. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure that messing around with our stuff does nothing for world peace, global warming, and the price of rice in China, but we enjoy it. So, if I may ask, what are you presently driving?

Sincerely,
Matt

Hey slow, First off you remanufactured your truck from one end to the other,so if it was so satisfactory with the stock stuff why the big change over. Secound, Atleast 14.3 percent of the people on this forum have voiced disapointment (check thread with POLL "would you do it again" and that number matches the amount of lost buisiness that GM reports on the new bod style trucks and other car lines, but they wont admit it was their piss poor engineering that caused it, and that goes for all of there product line, check detroit news and you will find that the truth is, GM dropped the ball, but GM wont admit this publicly. Third, GM waited until poeple died, and or were injured, in accidents caused by this top notch engineering, only after the NTSB forced GM too acnoledge the defective engineering, did they act. Forth, Did you replace your stock brakes on that hot rod you made or did you improve them , did you leave the stock fuel pump on or did you upgrade. My point is you repaired or replaced most every thing on your truck, so how would you be ablee to say you like your original factory truck. Besides your truck was a 99 witch i think had more old style parts then this new crap. Your truck is awsome by the way and i mean no disrespect but you built it, not GM. Start a new poll if you care and lets see again how well GM did on this last body style. I am disabled and stuck with my GM crap, i made the mistake of counting on GM to take care of its customers as if they wanted them to return for another. I thought that the 99 to 02 were the best looking of the NBS but when they whent the squared of hood they lost me. These trucks had the potential to be great trucks but they missed it, to bad Toyota didnt have this design atleast then we could count on some quality along with a little company integrity...jj
