ignition relay

im working on a 99 lesabre. the car would not start..SO..checked the battery, that was good. pulled the starter..got it tested, it was toast. so i put the new one in, and the car still doesnt start. it doesnt even click. i was wondering where the starter relay was (which one) and what you all think this might me.

thanks.

Re: ignition relay

Is the security lite on or flashing when this will not start?

If the lights for the security and other engine functions don't light when turning the key to "on" then you should check the igniton switch itself. It's on the base of the column and on top if I understand what others have said.

When you turn the key to "on" the security light and everything else comes on, the security light stays on for a few seconds and then goes off as the box recognized the resistance for the key inserted, and then the car is able to crank when the key is rotated further. If the wrong key resistance is read, the security module tells the computer that it has the wrong key and no injector pulses and no crank is enable to the starter relay. It will wait three minutes and then will read the next key inserted to see if the right resistance chip is present; then the start and injectors will be enabled.

First make sure your security light is going through theright cycle readng the resistance chip in the key. Do you have a second key for the car to try?

Re: ignition relay

Check the ign fuses under the hood, should be a large black relay/fuse center. If all ok you will either need a factory wiring diagram to check for the ign circuits or professional help. If the inst. lites on the dash and sec./ck engine lites don't come on key on, this requires some more intricate diagnostics as mentioned.

Re: ignition relay

Ok so. New starter. Checked all the fuses and relays. Still nothing. The security light does not come on when I turn the key to the "on" position. I have 2 keys for the car and have tried both. What should I try next?

Re: ignition relay

Hi everyone,

I am having a similar problem as the original poster, with the exception that the Security light now will not stop blinking. This struck me when I went to stop into the grocery store, came back out and the car would not crank at all.

I've poked around online but I have not been able to find an answer (although I am probably not searching well).

Any suggestions or thoughts?
