Just witnessed a hit & run...

I decided to go for a walk down to the beach tonight to clear my head with a bit of fresh air. On my way back up the hill on a well traveled road (near a big strip of bars) the sound of a gunning engine caught my attention. I looked up just in time to see a monte carlo whipping through a left turn out of a 4-way stop slam on its breaks and hit a guy in the crosswalk about a block ahead of me. He slid up the hood and off the driver's side while the driver took off down the street. So I run down the road and catch up to the guy who has started to walk away to make sure he's okay.

A couple from another car had also stopped, and they had fortunately gotten his plate number. Equally lucky was the fact that by the time I caught up with the guy we were standing right in front of the police station, and the cops had it on the wire within a couple minutes. The car had an out of state plate and a distinctively ugly checkered flag racing stripe thing all over it, so it didn't make for a very inconspicuous getaway car.

After the talk with the cops I continued back up the hill. A couple minutes later I see two patrol cars flying down PCH in the direction that the guy had fled. I hope they caught that bastard...

The victim was a Hispanic guy who had just gotten off his shift at a sushi place down the street. He barely spoke any English and looked like he was just going to walk it off and forget about it while I was running after him, and was a little dodgy even after I stopped him. It's a messed up world when you can't even be sure a victim of a reckless crime wants to be helped...

Its amazing how people have 0 compassionate when they fuck up huh? I couldn't live with myself if I hit an actual person with my car.

Thats funny about that guy though, hispanic people usually don't like to mention if they're hurt because they were raised like that, so he was probally like damn, well that sucked....well whatever. Lol. Half my family is hispanic, and if anyone gets hurt everyone always is like 'get the fuck up' or 'walk it off!', haha.

Thats horrible glad you got the guy to stick around and those other people grabbed the license plate. About a year ago this kid was run over by the hudson river in NY it was an oil tanker truck, the neighbors saw the truck run him over while he was crossing the street about 1AM going home from his friends house and the truck backed up and manuvered around him and continued on its way. I can't believe people can do shit like that.

It's not only the Hispanic people that are that way. Growing up, my family was like that, and that was passed on from generation to generation. It comes from the "Old Country",( Europe, Russia, and the whole Slavic region". My grandparents immigrated to this country in the late 1800s and they had to work hard to make a go of their new life in America. That meant working when you were sick and not "bellyaching" about any pains you had. I remember being told to "work it off" or to keep moving the area or joint that hurt, even though you were in severe pain. I was like that into may late 20s, never missed a days work, did things even though I was sick and should have been resting etc, but after I got married and had kids, I began to realize it wasn't worth overextending yourself and possibly making your own self worse. Now when I get sick or injure myself, I take it easy because I realize life is too important, and whatever you need to do can wait until you are better .

In Los Angeles most hispanic people wouldn't report an accident like this to the police because they are illegal aliens and don't want to involve any authorities because they're afraid of being deported.

Yea both of you guys are right. Its definitely a man thing, but fuck if I got hit by a car, I'd be bitching like a baby. And I wasn't sure where this took place, so I didn't jump to the illegal alien idea yet although it crossed my mind.

This is the scenario I was thinking about as I walked away hoping I didn't just get the guy in trouble trying to help him out. But my desire to hear about that guy in the monte carlo going to jail in the newspaper outweighed it anyway.
