exhaust work questions

My wife's Lesabre's tailpipe broke off at the muffler. I probably need to replace the muffler as well, but really don't want to replace the pipe between the cat and muffler, as it is probably in good shape(I'll look at it later this week). I realize the system is welded, but are there parts available to bolt a new muffler into place? Thanks

Re: exhaust work questions

Click Here for more info on Walker muffler & pipe. You can order the parts from Advanced, RockAuto or any Walker dealer.

Re: exhaust work questions

You could always cut it right before the muffler and piece in a short adapter to join the pipe and muffler. Would have to buy a couple of clamps. These auto parts stores sell all kinds of short adapters that will work for various sizes, you just have to find the right one (diameter). The diagram provided in the link above makes it look like it is pieced together, possibly with a clamp at the muffler. If welded though, it could be cut and joined. I wouldn't worry about losing a tailpipe. Might as well wait until the muffler starts making noise.

Re: exhaust work questions

The only problem is that the tailpipe supports one side of the muffler. Now the muffler is dangling from one hanger and will probably cause the other weld on the muffler to fail soon. Thanks for the diagram, I'll look into it further.
