What tires did you go to?
I really do love my 2000 Grand Prix GTP Daytona Package, and just put on some Goodyear TripleTred Tech P225/60R16 - 97H, VSB last week. Those tires just ROCK in rain, snow and ice! I can only imagine how they will feel once summer hits! I'll take a little more road noise, knowing that my wife is safe driving the car in any weather condition.
I slammed on my breaks (about 80%) while doing 35MPH and couldn't hardly get the ABS to engage, and came to a very quick stop on packed snow covering ice. Then I punched it about 80% throttle, and the traction control hardly engaged for very smooth and quick acceleration back up to 35MPH! That was about as far as I was comfortable in pushing the envelope, though it felt like there was much more to go. Pic of my baby when she was brand-new! Been through lots with her. Drove through a tornado in Kansas (Feb 29), hit a deer doing 65MPH (only crumpled the hood, and launched the deer 16' into the air), and drove too fast one time in snow and slid off the highway all in '04.

Re: What tires did you go to?
Nice car. I have an '02 GT with the same alloy wheels. I use Yokohama Avid Touring tires. They ride nice, but end up going wobbly on these bad Pennsylvania roads after 20 or 30K miles.

As far as tire wear goes, that remains to be seen. I love going through a little water then stop on some dry pavement to see the tracks the tires leave behind. Kinda like bird feet! Driving on the snow and looking at the tracks they leave I can really see why it has awesome grip. I wonder if I could pull a SUV out of the ditch now? I only have about 65,000 miles on it, and it was my only car from August 2000 until this Christmas. |

Re: What tires did you go to?
just got some new Kumho ECSTA ASX on my '04 GTP. For 80 bucks a piece, they ranked 3rd behind Pirelli P Zeros (according to "Tire Rack" see here-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=52 Only have about 1000 miles on em, but they corner hard and do great in rain and not bad in the snow/ice (as far as Missouri snow and ice goes). Any comments on using the reviews at tirerack would be great- this is the only place I have gotten tires (price and data seem to be the best). |
