88.5 AC bypass
I have a 1988.5 Ford Escort GT and I don't want to spend 350.00 on a new AC compressor. I just want to put a new belt on it to bypass this compressor. Anyone ever do this? What size is the belt? Any ideas please let me know.
Thanks, Chad [email protected] |

I don't know on the belt size, but here's a tip from old days:
Take a piece of string and wrap around pulleys as they would if it were a belt, bypassing the ac compressor. Mark the place where they meet and subtract about an inch. I have done this several times, although sometimes it is hard for the parts guy to go by size rather than vehicle application. Another thing is ask for a belt, and state that it doesn't have air conditioning, they may hand you the correct belt, and if it's not, carry it back for a refund. Just a thought. Good luck Fordman
