94 S-10 wont shift at all

I,ve come to the conclusion that this is an electrical problem but thought I might get some help on here. The truck will drive in every gear if you shift it manually but will not downshift or upshift on its own. I've searched myself silly on here and have not seen the same exct problem so I thought I would post. I've been through the usual checking fluid and what not, but no solutions yet. This happend all of a sudden, (my sons truck, so this is his story) says he spun the tires on a patch of snow and then it just quit going. So I check it out, it will not go if you are in overdrive or drive, will go if you start in 2nd or 1st, once you get up to speed you can shift into drive and then overdrive. So every gear is working just not shifting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah....its a 94 S-10 4cyl auto. No idiot lights are on. All dash lights are working. If you need any more info just let me know, I sure hope I can fix this myself, cant afford to take it anywhere. Thanks in advance!
