"tapping" noise in cool weather

if anyone has any idea to what i'm about to describe, please let me know !..
i have a '00 neon LX with a sunroof, in lower temperatures (around 10 to 15 degrees celsius) and lower, around highway speeds, i will get a tapping noise around the drivers roof line/a pillar, only with a window cracked open or the sunroof open, close it right up and it goes away. seems to happen more frequently when raining but will do it when dry out as well., when it's sealed up totally quite, crack any window or roof open a crack, sure enough it cpmes back, not a steady noise, but an erratic one, almost sounds like hail hitting metal, but that is obvouisly not it, any help would be greatly appreciated, seeing as it is driving me crazy, especially as i'm on the highway everyday !!, thanks

Re: "tapping" noise in cool weather

I have the exact same issue. Mine seems to happen more when it rains, almost everytime. I cannot find it anywhere. It sounds like water leaking but I have checked every seal on the car. I haven't found anything. It has been doing it since I got the car pretty much....that was like 4+ years ago.

No noticable rust either....I am to the point where I just turn the radio up louder.
