hhr steering by-wire
put this in the hhr section too but it seems kinda quiet there. hopefully ill get more eyes on this here.
a friend of mine just put her 2006 hhr into a wall. she was making a right turn into a shopping center and was going about 25-30 mph so it was a fast turn but i wouldnt think that wouldve been the problem from the way the wreck looked. she claims she started to turn the steering wheel and it started to turn the car but then wouldnt turn the wheels anymore. she then turned to wheel all the way and still nothing and then she hit the shopping center sign. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of the electronic steering systems in these cars failing. She has had a couple electrical issues already with the car that would come and go and the dealer could never find anything wrong.

Re: hhr steering by-wire
My only suggestion, and something I just tried fo ryou is the NHTSA records. Hwever, their site was being incredibly frustrating. However they track patterns in vehilce incidents and reports which can eventually lead to involuntary manufacturer recalls, etc.
I personally have been skepticl of the drive by wire systems. To me, it' no different than the steering wheel and pedals I have for my videogame systems, and even that does not always respond to the movement I selected. Also, this is a main reason why when a new car, or redesign comes out, or new technology in thsi case, I always sit back and watch for a few years for pattern problems before I'd even think about buying the vehicle or recommending it, 5th Gen might be a different story tho

Re: hhr steering by-wire
Well... if something mechanical fails, at least you can tell and find it... something fails that's electrical good luck finding it. I guess that was the dealership's problem. They couldn't find the issue. Sounds like a ground came undone, or loose connection somewhere.
I'd like to know what the dealer says now. |

Re: hhr steering by-wire
well toyota/lexus has cars that parallel park themselves now... and they're saying that OBDIII will be able to let police cut the ignition on a car if its say stolen, running from the cops, etc... also saying it'll be able to limit speed to the speed limit or some other BS.
Screw that.

Re: hhr steering by-wire
yeah and those parallel park cars dont work at all. I saw a video of someone trying to use it and the car just kept wanting to back up into another car. They kept having to abort it by pushing the brake otherwise they would have been hitting cars.

Re: hhr steering by-wire
F THAT. Old school.. no comptuers, no EFI, no nothing tht someone else can control. If I need to do 180mph or 0-60 in 2 seconds (that'd be nice) I don't want some pencil-necked, dick-breathed, ass-lipped, douche-bag stopping me from doing it.
Christ... We are becoming a communist state! You pay 30-50 grand for a fringgin car and some idiot can control it... NOT! No school like the old school. I actually read an article that said the editors went to a so-cal car crusher and bought a 68 maro that was about to be crushed for like $500, took it to an emissions testing center and it passed without any problem whatsoever. Ain't NO-ONE ever going to stop my maro with a damned computer, telephone or whatever. They want to stop it... they're going to have to cut me a check for $40 grand first, and then they can do what they want with it. Oh and as far as these license plate with RFID tags in them... well mine just might have to get bent and broken in that corner. Pricks. We are turning into a military state... with Nancy fucking Pelosi and the California fucktards calling the shots. Better hope Thuner Thighs Clinton doesn't win the 08 elections, not only will she regulate the PISS out of the automotive industry, but she'll raise the taxes so high that you won't be able to afford gas to dirve your maro. If she gets elected, I'm going on welfare... probably make more than I do now. EDIT: I meant California Legislature, not citizenry... just to clear that up.) |
