Hi everyone-
I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Maryland. I had to pick a project for a report I have to do, and I figured I'd pick something remotely interesting. A friend of mine has a 2000 Chevy Camaro SS, which he races occasionally. It is currently stock. Anyhow, my project is to do an analysis on what upgrades he can do initially, for under a few thousand dollars, that would decrease his quarter mile time the most. The problem is, I need to give evidence to support what I find out. I just need to find some websites/books/articles that give performance data for upgrades. I haven't been able to find much, and I was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction. Thanks, -Will |

You could try www.slpeng.com, and follow all of the links on that site, i.e. performance parts. That should get you started. First things to do would be a new airlid, catback exhaust, headers, y-pipe, and the easy bolt-ons. The stuff in my sig has cost me less than a thousand bucks including install. After that you get to more major installs (cam, gears, heads, etc.
What type of information are you looking for?

Re: First upgrades for a 2000 Camaro SS?

Basic boltons are always good(intake, headers, exhaust), but a sometimes overlooked mod that will drop your times more than i/h/e is a set of gears. 3.73s for an auto, and 4.10s for a manual would be a good improvement. Also, a larger stall converter for an auto, while a bit pricey, would drop your times significantly. Those are some good ways to get started.
