Thumbs up Mass Air Flow(MAF) sensor- Testing & Replacing for 99+ V6 only

Mass Air Flow(MAF) sensor- Testing & Replacing

The MAF is only on the V6 models only.
The MAF measures the amount of air passing through the sensor going into the engines throtle body. The PCM uses this info to control fuel delivery. The more air entering the more fuel required.

The MAF sensor in located in the air intake tube.

** A scann tool is necessary to check output of the MAF.
The scan tool displays the sensors out put range in grams per second.

- With the engine idling at normal operating temp. the display should show apporx. 4.0-6.0 grams per second(GPS)
- When the engine is accelerated, the values should rise quickly and remain steady at a steady engine speed.

- Before checking the MAF operations check the voltage suplied and ground cicuits.
- MAF plug connector
- MAF wire color pic -
- Disconnect the elec. connector from the MAF sensor.
- Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the pink wire terminal, and the Neg. to the black/white wire terminal on the wire harness leads.
- Turn the ignition "ON", the voltage should read approx 12 volts.
- If the voltage is incorrect check the cicuits from the sensor to the poer distribution center and engine grounds. Check fuses also.
- If the cicuits are good check operations with the Scan Tool as describe abiove.
- If the MAF sensor doesnt read the 4.0-6.0 GPS then replace the MAF sensor.

- MAF Sensor Replacement -

- Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAF and the IAT.
- Loosen the hose clamps holding the air intake duct to the MAF,
and remove the duct.
- Loosen the clamp on the air filter box attaching the MAF.
- Remove sensor.
- Install in reverse procedures.
