not so perfect ending..

I got my windows tinted on Tuesday of this week. I got them 17% all the way around with a visor also. With a few exceptions of me wanting to drive to the car wash my car has sat in the garage. I have been trying to let it sit the 3 days so I can roll down my window. I like a cracked window while driving.

Anyway, I wanted to go check out this new GXP at the dealership across town so I waited for my girl to get off so we could eat as well. My car was really clean and shiny like I like it and the tint just set it off perfect. We are heading down the road deciding on a place to eat. I was getting on the interstate driving normal. Traffic was little heavy. As I was about to start my merging over toward the fast lane I was haulted by the sight of a city policeman. He was in the fast lane so I thought I'll just stay in this lane for a few.

Well, as luck would have it I was about to be pulled for a tint violation. Damn!! The cop never got in front of me all though being four lanes over. He starts to make his way over and me and my g/f were like wtf. I was staring at him pretty hard, 'cause he couldnt see me and all' . Well the blue lights appear. He came up and had this thing that fit over my window and informed me that my front 2 windows and visor are illegal at 15%. I didnt argue with the guy at all as I was speechless. I got a $110 ticket due by the 26th of this month.

I didnt look at at no GXP and ended up eating at mickey d's.a not so perfect ending to what was supposed to be a pefect night with a race or two I was hoping.

Re: not so perfect ending..

well you knew the tints were illegal, you should have been prepared to except the consequences. It was only a matter of time before you got caught.

Re: not so perfect ending..

That really sucks. Is it a fix-it ticket? Are you required to show proof that the tint is gone, or do you simply pay the fine and go on driving the car?

I'm not mad at nobody but myself, but thnks for pointing that out.

I asked if I could proove in court it was gone and he kinda laughed so I assumed that it would be a waste of my time but. Thats what I work for I guess. I would have expected a warning or something, but ignorance is no excuse

Re: not so perfect ending..

2 things. Find out if tint is something he can actually pull you over for in your state. In some states, it's not a violation that he can pull you over for. But if he gets you for speeding, he can tack it on. Also, even if you could do a fix it ticket, then you would still have to pay $30 or so instead of the $110, and with the remaining $80, it wouldnt' be worth it to retint it. If it were me, I'd be pissed, but pay the $110 and leave it tinted. It was bound to happen...just sucks it happened so soon.

Re: not so perfect ending..

^^ Haha yep.

The tint on my 3000gt is not legal either. I have been pulled over a fair amount of times with it and I always rolled both windows down by the time they got to me. However my rear window and rear sides are tinted illegaly too but they never said anything about that.

Actually, the new Grand Prix GXP is only 3600lbs. The GTP sedan is only 3440lbs.

And, they actually get similar milege. The GTP is claimed to get 18/28mpg with an 18 gallon tank, so a range of 504 miles. The GXP is claimed to get 18/27mpg with a 17 gallon tank, so 459 miles.

Not to mention the GXP not only has 63 more horsepower (303 vs 240), but it also has 43 more ft-lbs of torque (323 vs 280).

The '98 GTP could do 0-60 in roughly 8.8 seconds (edmunds.com), the GXP can do it in 5.9 seconds.

The Autochannel tested a 2000 Grand Prix GTP and they got 0-60 in 6.6 and they estimate the 1/4 in 15.0. The 2006 GXP was tested to do 0-60 in 5.7 and 14.30 in the quarter.

Plus it has Displacement on Demand... if you drive it gingerly you could probably see the EPA estimated 27mpg highway, or higher if you're really good. And you get the tap shifting transmission... you get to control all 4 gears!

Re: not so perfect ending..

A 98 GTP with a 0-60 in 8.8 seconds is terrible. That had to have been in either terrible conditions, a bad driver, or both. Some people cut 14.7's stock with a GTP.

hmmm. I though it was heavier than that, it looks heavy as hell. Eh still F/I plus less car payments FTW
