Aston Martin DBR9 - 1000km Silverstone 2005 (1/43 - PMA)

Another customer model to be built, for the Marc Goossens fanclub president this time. It is the Aston Martin in which Goossens became 4th in GT1 during the 2005 Silverstone 1000km.

First I cleaned up the body, sanded it and degreased it. Next I applied 2 coats of primer after which I sprayed 2 coats of Motip Blue n° 44900.

The wing-endplate exteriors are sprayed in the same blue, while the rest of the wing will be sprayed in semigloss black.

After the paint has dried and the rear spoiler has been sprayed as well, I can start applying the decals. First I fix the CF-decals and the large colors, because the sponsors have to be applied over them.

The good quality of the white surfaces is remarkable, because nothing of the blue color shines through.

Covering the headlight interiors with CF was pretty complicated, and I had to repair quite a few spots with a small brush, but in the ned the result is acceptable. I think it is anyway.

Re: Aston Martin DBR9 - 1000km Silverstone 2005 (1/43 - PMA)

Some more progress.

All the decals are applied to the outside. The interior has been cleaned up as well, and I dryfitted it with the dashboard and the wheels (without the inserts).

To give you an idea, I put a piece of 2 eurocent next to the model, so you have an idea of the dimensions of the Aston Martin.

The PMA DBR9 is pretty accurate. The only problem are the tires (not slicks) and the PE insert. No shape and no nuts in it. Your buils is looking very good.

Re: Aston Martin DBR9 - 1000km Silverstone 2005 (1/43 - PMA)

Once the decals are completely dry, I sealed them with 2 gloss coats.

While the body is drying, I tackle the interior. First I gave it a coat of primer and a coat of silver. Next I bended the pedal set and the gear shift in shape after which I fixed them. Same procedure for the black box, and I also covered the fire extuingisher with BMF.

The seat has been sprayed matt black, after which I painted the seat belts matt blue. Once dry I apply the photoetched buckles and the decals to seat belts and seat. I also assembled the whitemetal roll cage parts, and sprayed it silver. Then I painted the protection parts matt black.

The dashboard has been sprayed semigloss black, after which I applied the CF-decals. The steering wheel consists of a metal ring with 3 pgotoetched parts. I assemble and paint it matt black. The taillights have been sprayed in the same blue as the body, after which the lights have been covered with BMF that I painted clear red.

The rims look a bit less ridiculous as well. Inside are the photoetched Brembo brakes, and the inserts close the rims nicely. It's a pity they are flat and the nuts are missing as well, as stated by manu80. I applied the Michelin-decals as well. The diffuser consists of 9 photoetched parts! after a coat of matt black it looks pretty accurate...

Until the next update!

Interesting model and project. Nice job on the rims and wheels as well on the interior. It must be hard working in this small scale, if I imagine what problems I have working on 1/24th scale. You sure need steady hands.
Will you "downtone" the paint a little? Looks very shiny to me and by this kind of inaccurate. But I´m sure there is a reason for this!

awesome job so far, 1/43 is very tricky, just see mine.

I wish the companies would do a better job on the rims, but Technomodel has some flawless rims for my Ferrari in my sig.

Great job on another 1/43 scale it's coming along nicely. One question did the CF decals come with the kit? If not what brand is that?

Yes, my customer likes it like this. But it looks a lot less shiny in reality: the 6 lights in my photostudio really exagerate the shine...

Ok, the finish is in sight. Let's wrap this baby up a little faster

The cockpit parts have been fixed. Just a few pics to give you an idea before the body will hide these details...

Next I fixed the wheels and lined them up.

The protective mesh has been fixed to the body interior.

From the outside it looks like this:

Next update will be the finished pics!
