Help! Power steering fluid puddle under car!
It's been a day...
My son's 97 GP, the idler pulley broke off at 65mph this morning. Being only a few miles away, he drove back home and parked it in the garage. Tonight I replaced the pulley and put a new belt on, fired it up, everything seemed OK. However, once I backed out of the garage, and discovered a 12" wide puddle of PS fluid on the ground. Argghhh!! I wonder if something got damaged when the pulley came off. Any suggestions on where I should start? FWIW, the power steering is still working for the moment. *EDIT* Had a friend look at it tonight - he says oil is coming out the PS pump main seal. Well, that answers that. Yep! New pump time. Make absolutely certain that you bleed the lines and pump otherwise you can burn up the new pump.

I just this second sat down, the pump replacement is ... DONE!
Bought a pump and borrowed a pulley puller from Autozone, my son and I did the job. We did the bleed procedure too, so far so good. |
