Head is DONE...almost
I just got home from picking up my new head. Deffinatly looks nice. However, the guy told me he didn't install my bronze valve guides because they are trash. He said the bronze guides tend to expand and lock up. He said they are ussually only for race use and not street use. I still need to install cam gears on them and I plan on just swapping my other stock ones on it. I also need to install the rollers(I think thats what they are called). Anyway here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Re: Head is DONE...almost
Well, I spent pennies under $1,700 total in parts. This includes new timing components, water pump, all new gaskets, ect. I spent $360 for installation and machining. Would of been $300 but, one of the old exhaust mani studs were snapped off inside so it required more machine work. As for the head parts alone...
-SI SS valves(nitrided) 195 -Ferrea valve stem seals 40 -Ferrea valve locks 79 -Exhaust mani stud kit 30 -FP comp cam2 430 -BC springs/titanium ret. 250 -Topline revised lifters 119 Total: $1,143 I think I did pretty good on the bargain shopping haha. If anyone is interested in where I got everything feel free to ask. Also I have an entire sheet of everything else I bought.

Re: Head is DONE...almost
How do you have that much invested in your head? I only have 900 invested into mine and its pretty much the exact same.

Re: Head is DONE...almost
What kinda turbo are you running on this setup? Because unless it's something monster it seems to be kind a waste to do all that work to your head.
But I agree with what Blackcrow said. Seems really pricey. Especially because you didn't get a port job or anything did you?

Re: Head is DONE...almost
I didn't get stock valves. I got ferrea valve locks and seals too. I think I remember you telling me that you went mostly with stock parts other than springs. Only thing OEM in this head is going to be the rocker rollers and guides(which were machined).
I plan on building the bottom end with a 6 bolt block. Then I plan on going to at least a 50 trim at full capacity. No I did not get it ported. Just a 3 angle valve job.

Seems like you are doing alot of overkill for just a 50 trim. If you are building a bottom end and your head like that you better be putting on something much larger than that.

Re: Head is DONE...almost
Haha thats why I said AT LEAST. I haven't looked into turbos yet because, I do not need to buy one yet. Right now I'm just worried about getting everything else. Any suggestions on a nice turbo set up for my head and a forged 2.0 bottom end?

Re: Head is DONE...almost
No, I don't have any stock parts in mine now. Mines fully built just like yours... I could have gotten away with leaving a few stock parts in it but I said screw it and went with the overkill. lol

Have you considered making your motor into a stroker motor? I mean if you are going to pay all that cash to rebuild it with forged internals making it into a stroker would only be slightly more expensive.

And definitely would be worth spending that extra dough, you shouldn't even have to think twice about something like that....unless you have the parts already. But then again, you could always sell them and buy new ones. |

You should. If you are going all out to build your bottom end, your talking about the difference of a couple hundred dollars in price that gives you 2.3 ltrs of displacement. You might as well go with a GT35R after that

Re: Head is DONE...almost
Okay, I am 4 and a half hours in. My old head is off the car and my new lifters are soaking in oil. I still need to get cam seals and figure out how to install them properly. I read a good bit about them but, if anyone has tips let me know. Also, on the intake cam on the opposite side of the cam gear there is some sort of cap on the end of the cam that looks like it taps into the journal. Someone know what this cap is called and do I really just tap it in?
I had to remove the camshafts from the head with the cam gears still attached because I did not have an impact gun handy. When I did this I broke the sensor that goes behind the intake cam gear. What is this sensor called? Anyone have an extra one they are willing to sell? My ac system is still installed and I don't even think it works (never used it). I was told while the head is off it is very easy to take the compressor and lines out. If possible I would like to take everything out except the condensor because, I will just take that out when I take my current bumper off and put the 97-99 bumper on. Any suggestions on this?
