Problems with Remote Starter Installation
I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Convertible that I've been installing a remote starter in for the last two weekends. I went to finish up the installation this weekend, but when I tried to start the car (with the key) to move it out of the garage... it wouldn't start. I haven't been using the car during the week but it has started fine with the key for the past two weekends.
When I try to start the engine, it starts to turn over, then stops, and then starts making a rapid clicking noise over and over. My friend suggested it was an anti-theft measure, but I don't see how that would be the case since I am using the actual key. Has anyone installed one of these before on a Sebring, or know what could be causing the problem? Thanks a lot. |

Re: Problems with Remote Starter Installation
All symptoms you mentioned, points to a weak or dead battery. Check battery voltage, it should be 12.6 to 12.7V.

Re: Problems with Remote Starter Installation
I don't think so. If it cranks and starts then stalls, you have something else going on. Is the red dot for the security light flashing??? How or what did you use to bypass the Sentry Key? Sounds to me as if the car is seeing two key codes.

Re: Problems with Remote Starter Installation
The car does not completely start. The engine begins to turn over for maybe half a second, then stops, and proceeds to make a clicking sound until I stop trying to crank it. The engine does not run at all. Testing indicates a battery problem; I was going to try to jump start it to avoid buying a new battery but I don't know if there's any reason I shouldn't...
I don't think its an anti-theft problem because my car does not have a Sentry/Transponder key. From my understanding transponder keys are the thicker, gray keys; mine is a thin, black key. The car does not have any kind of anti-theft system to my knowledge. Thanks again for any help. |

Re: Problems with Remote Starter Installation
I got the problem resolved. Turns out the problem was with the battery; it was dead all along, I don't know why it started with a key originally. The remote starter works fine now also. Thanks for everyone's help.
