Need good rotors for my 05 Camry

I am planning to replace the break rotors on my wife’s 05 Camry. It’s the second set of pads where I did not cut the rotors and I assume it’s better to replace them then trying to cut them and getting it out of specs. What rotors you recommend? I’ve never used the drilled rotors and don’t know how they perform. The next statement will get me in trouble, but I am there anyway. With my wife’s “realtor style” of driving I suspect I’ll need new rotors in about 2 years time, just like this ones will not survive past 60k. So what set of rotors/pads I need to get to prolong the life of break system? Thanks.

Re: Need good rotors for my 05 Camry

Good lord. I've got an 87 with 250 K miles and have only changed the rotors once.

Rotors have a minimum thickness stamped on them somewhere. By law, a mechanic cannot resurface a rotor below that minimum measurement. Before a mechanic starts he will measure the distance between the deepest groove from one side to the other. If that measurement is greater that the minimum thickness measurement stamped on the rotor he will resurface the rotor. If it's not or they are badly warped he'll tell you to get new rotors. You are wasting your money if you change the rotors without measuring them.

Considering your wifes history, I would say you need ceramic or semi metalic pads. They are the best compromise between rotor wear and pad wear. A buddy of mine swears by Brembo drilled/slotted rotors and Rofren pads. He was having serious brake fade/rotor wear problems on a 240Z. Changed to these and his problems were gone. Never had to get them turned in 100K+ miles and they still looked great when he sold the car. They are priceyer but, he had no more brake issues.

Go to rockauto.com you can find good rotors and pads, the higher price should be better, but I just installed the cheapest rotors about $15? so far so good. Go ceramic pad. Especially not go the autozone's semi-metalic, lots of dust and wraped my two rotors before.
