hello need some advice

92 olds achieva when the car is started in the morning the volt gauge drops below 13 I can hit the gas and it goes back up I would think this is a regulator issue when should i change this? usually you would think asap but it still is charging. Also my check gauges light keeps comming on and there is nothing wrong with my gauges then the light eventually disappears and also had the radiator fixed this summer had a 190 degree thermostat put in as well as a new radiator and right now you can touch it after driving it for a couple of hours only gets to about 11o degrees all this stuff is brand new so what is my problem with this. also it is really cold here right now but it should get hotter than this you would think.

Re: hello need some advice

The voltage issue may be caused by one of two things, low engine idle or slipping belt. First check all connections to the alternator and battery. Loose connections can cause issues. Next change the belt and see what happens also check and clean the Idle Air Controller on your car so that the engine will idle at proper speed.

As for the heat issue, it sounds like the new thermostat has malfunctioned and is stuck open. This does not allow water to heat up appropriately.

Re: hello need some advice

Hi,
Well I have an update on my car issues!!!!!!!!!!!! _ this is what I feel like after this fiasco well we took my car back in to the place that fixed the radiator this summer I figured it was a thermostat issue because it was not heating up.HMMMMMM well when I took it there it was not leaking any water nor was it overheating ok are you with me on this one? Well I was at school they called my dad and said it was the water pump like I said there was no water in my driveway this is what I thought of the mechanic at first I thought he must of been looney anyway this costed quite a bit and the thermostat was replaced again also. How many more problems will I have with this car? I bought it for a grand and have put a grand in it.I would just like to know?

Re: hello need some advice

Well for starters the car is 15 years old.

If regular maintenance wasnt done then you will have problems and it will cost money to fix those problems.

If you dont have heat after all that, then possibly your heater core is bad/clogged etc etc.

Good Luck
